A vivification of the object is the focus here. One thinks of the climbing rope, of the music, perhaps also of the rope suddenly falling down, which, from one instant to the next, no longer possesses life. And even if the illusion is quickly exposed as a cheap trick—each performance makes use of a cardboard display — Frohne-Brinkmann succeeds in charming the audience. Indulging the illusion is far too tempting, giving into it and allowing childish fascination to win over the mind. Even its intimation causes a sense of wonder and bewilderment as to how the trick actually works. And once again curiosity, amazement, and mystery take over, which is connected not least to the performative moment of the works. – Merle Radtke
