Über den PARA-Behälter ins Symptom, 2009
The depiction of ghosts in 19th century photography was a popular genre. Often using cotton gauze or similar materials to visualize the presence of these spirts, photography seemed to verify the work of hidden forces. In 1895 with the discovery of x-rays, this type of “spiritual photography” even more so gained in acknowledgment. In the series “Über den Parabehälter ins Syndrom”, unique photographs on x-ray film, John Bock stages different portrait situations, depicting himself, a female ghost and other objects or machines, built by the artist. By using this special photographic technique, the artist carries the fashionable search and fascination for the paranormal a step further
